Wow! what a great day. Yesterday the first stop was the 6 year old girls. They went to the balls. It is where you put the ball in your guts and you do 3 jumps. It was hard but I did it. Thankgoodness it isn't the running race because Jessica always wins! I can't run a running race. Oh no! the 6 year old girls have to go to the running race. I can't do it. I definitely can't! Then the lady said "On your marks, get set go!" I ran as fast as I could. I crossed the finish line. My mum was proud of me. I was proud of myself. There are still more activities to go.

"Ready, set go!" said Mrs Bellamy. I thought Mika would sped up. We had to go around a big field two times. I was getting puffed. I past the finish line. I came first. It felt like I was an Olympic person getting a gold medal for Outram School.

Wow! the sports were amazing. I got in the finals. I was so proud with Katrina. I ran so fast that I almost fell over. We all tried to be first. I did not get first. I was feeling like a road runner. We did a long distance run. I got 6th in the long distance run. It was a good day for athletics. There were lots of people there.

I was excited when it was athletics day because I was going to get second and I did. Mum and Grandma came to watch me. My favourite activity was the beach flags because I came second. I got in the finals. I was proud of myself so was mum and Grandma. They thought that I did well. At the end we did races and I got in the finals then we did it again and I didn't get anywhere.

On Monday it was a fantastic day. I was flying through the poles. Mum was cheering for me. We moved to the beach flags. I had to lie backwards, it was hard. Sam and I snatched for the stick. We had to have another race. "I got it. I got it" I said. I was so proud of me. It felt like worms sweating down my face. I got two points. I pushed a ball over the cones. My second throw I got one point. I thought I was going to do a big, huge throw but I didn't do a good throw at all. It was a small throw. "Ready, set go!" we slowly walked the 400 metre race. It was just not walking it was probably running. So since we ran it all we were puffed and exhausted. "Ready, set go" we are doing the 400 metres now. I am coming 1st. I looked back I have got motor crossing bikes in my legs. I got four points. I got into my line. I am doing the 40 metre race. I heard the whack. I zoomed off. I still had those zoomy motor crossing bikes in my legs. It was a tie. I had to do it again. I came 1st place. I was buzzing! I went driving home. It was a fun and cool athletics.

At athletics day I thought it was very hot and that I needed a bigger water bottle. I loved the race at the end because I got to see how good I was. In the race I thought that I would get something different but all I got was one point. I thought that I might get a different number but I guess that's that. Then, when I did my long distance race, for my warm up I walked. Before my long distance race I felt like there were jumping jelly beans in my tummy. When the starting lady said "On your marks, get set, go!" I raced ahead of my self like a volcano was going to erupt. I got one point but I was still proud of myself.

Our Trip to the Museum

Wow! we went to the museum. It was really fun! We went into a room but we had to put on some gloves. We saw with our surprising eyes some eggs. It wasn't just eggs it was birds eggs. After that we went to a room and there was a big box of sand. Briannasaurus left her foot print and the lady talked about poos and how they turned into stone. We went into another room. We had a board, a piece of paper and a pencil. We saw a really, really, really, big ammonite. It was humongous. I haven't seen an ammonite for a long time.

Room 7 and Room 8 went on a trip to the museum. We went on an Indiana Jones tour through the big museum. We went into a secret room. Room 8 went with another person. We went in the room to dig up some things. I found a piece of old shopping list. Then we went with another person and saw a dinosaur poo fossilised. It turned into rock. Then Briannasaurus left her foot print in a box of sand. The sand covered the foot print up. We drew a picture of Dunedin. We learnt that we live inside a volcano. When you are driving around Port Chalmers you are at the bottom of the volcano. There will not be any more lava coming out of the volcano because it is extinct. We looked at all kinds of animals on the walls. We went into different gallerys to look at animals fossilised into rock. We pretended to be archaeologists. We saw a fossil. When we went back to our bags the foot print was dry. Brianna got to take it home.

Our trip to the museum was magnificent. As soon as Room 7 arrived is was probably the best day. Ruma ako eight and Ruma ako seven went up the stairs. My eyes were dripping hot flames because I was so hot. Suddenly we finally turned up at the top. Then we went to Indiana Jones's secret room and sat patiently. We studied objects and put the old, old, old, old objects in the years on a white piece of cardboard. I went into the secret room. We had to find if he was young or old, when and what he studied. There were two rectangle boxes, ten squares and we had to dig sand to find artefacts -that's archaeology. After morning tea we were doing paleontology.

Wow! my museum trip was like no other. There where so many exciting, extraordinary, fantastic things to do. First we were scientists and heard a story of a secret, spooky door. We split up my group and went to sort out olden day stuff. The other group went to see the spooky, secret room. When we went to the secret room we had to put on gloves.

Theme -What's under the ground?

Our inquiry unit this term is based on 'What is under the ground?' We will be learning about the layers of the earth, how fossils are formed, how scientists use fossils to find out about the past, classifying objects into man made and natural objects and finding answers to our 'I wonder' questions.

What fun we had!
We stepped into a special harness and attached the hook. Three children pulled on the rope which went around the 2 pulleys and lifted us up to the ceiling. Can you see Tyler flying and Jason giving you a wave?

Pulleys - Science

Did you know that lifting heavy objects can be easy using a pulley especially when you have 2 or more pulleys? We found that out today when we made our own pulley in pairs and used it to lift a piece of wood.
We then used a single pulley to lift a tin full of stones to the ceiling, and then tried lifting it with a double pulley system. We couldn't believe how much easier it was to lift!
A big thankyou to Mr Bellamy who made all the bits and pieces to make our own pulley system.

Do you know that simple levers are used to make things easier for us to move? We were given 2 pieces of wood and a heavy brick. We had to try and lift the brick up using the wood. We tried and tried. We all used perseverance and dedication. Finally Tyler and Katrina were the first to lift the brick off the ground. We discovered that this is called Lever. Today we had a medal ceremony with Room 9 where the children were presented with an Olympic Medal. Congratulations! Next week we will be holding another ceremony for the children who have not quite achieved their goals so let's hope they work hard this week.

Terrific Temperature!

In maths we are learning about temperature.
Today we made our very own temperature gauges and adjusted them throughout the day when we got hot or cold.
We also melted ice cubes in the classroom and found out where the hot spots and cold spots in the classroom were. Angel's ice cube melted first as she had hers beside the heater. Zachary's ice cube was the last to melt as he put his under Mrs Bellamy's table where it was cool.

In maths we have been learning about length. We have been practising measuring lines in centimetres. Katrina has been putting in some extra practise at home. In the holidays Nana looked out of the window and saw a Tui in the bluegum tree, another Tui came down to join it. Thomas and I came through to watch them. The Tui is bigger than a Bellbird. It is black with shiny green feathers. Under its beak looked like a little ball of wool.

The children were asked to write about what they would like to do in the holidays.

I would ask mum to buy a spa.
I would go to a Fun Park like Orana Park and see the giraffes and feed them.

Today Lilly brought along a newsletter clipping about a 6 year old girl who saved her father's life by ringing 111. This related well to our Knowing what to do topic - Keeping Ourselves safe. Constable Greer who is a policeman talked to us about what being safe means.
For homework tonight we have to fill in the house with our name, address and phone number. We must remember these things to keep ourselves safe. Here Lilly holds the newspaper article and the homework 'house'. Please return to school tomorrow.
