Knowing what to do - keeping ourselves safe

BubbleShare: Share photos - Powered by BubbleShare

Today Lilly brought along a newsletter clipping about a 6 year old girl who saved her father's life by ringing 111. This related well to our Knowing what to do topic - Keeping Ourselves safe. Constable Greer who is a policeman talked to us about what being safe means.
For homework tonight
we have to fill in the house with our name, address and phone number. We must remember these things to keep ourselves safe. Here Lilly holds the newspaper article and the homework 'house'. Please return to school tomorrow.

Our Champion Year 2 Cross Country Winner

This story was written the morning before Trey won the race!!!

Winning the Cross Country
By Trey (age 6)

Today is an exciting day because it is our cross country race.
I think I have jumpy jelly beans in my stomach.
I am going to come first because I have got zooming motorbikes in my legs. I might come second and get less house points but I will zoom past somebody.
There is a gigantic puddle and a big hill that I have to jog up.
The track is very large so I am going to be sweating all down me when I am finished because it is a long track.
If I come first every person in Hawea will be proud of me. Mum and Dad will be proud.
If I win I will go to Taieri Beach but I might not because I might have slow coaches in my legs…..but I have jogged around the house 7 times and done 14 star jumps because I want to be super fit!!!

Stitching Our Treasure Bags

Today we made little treasure bags to put in our precious things including any gold we found at our Gold Panning Day. First we drew some lines onto our material and using coloured wool we carefully made stitches around our lines to decorate our bags. The hard part was threading the needle and keeping the wool in the needle. Mrs Simpson is going to sew up our bags for us and put some nice string around them. Then we can take them home. Many thanks to Mrs Simpson.

Gold Rush at the Outram Glen

What a fantastic day we had gold mining down at the Outram Glen. Many little gold miners dressed up as gold miners and set off with their swags filled with a cup, baked potato and their damper. They wanted to make their fortune down at the Glen where gold had been discovered. We panned for gold, cooked damper over the campfires, ate our baked potato, sipped away at hot soup and sang songs around the campfires. The little gold miners had a great time even though some never made their fortune!! Thankyou to all the parent helpers who made this day a great success!

Zach at Tunnel Mine Hole

Zach at the remains of a gold stamper at his Grandfather's farm at Hindon. This was the site of the last gold mined done in Hindon. Mr Parker was still mining here at the time of WWII. He lived in a wee hut not far from the stamper. One of the mines is about 80 feet deep and 5 feet high.

Antarctica

Wow, we had a visit from Jade's cousin 'Janece'. She has been to Antarctica! She showed us some photos and even dressed Jade up in Antarctic clothes.
We learnt many interesting facts eg:
It takes 5 hours to fly to Antarctica.
It can be -35 degrees.

Can you add any more?
